Diversity Immigrants - Green Card through Diversity Visa lottery
Before 1965, many U.S. immigration laws favored immigrants from Northern European countries. However, The United States Congress decided to give equal opportunity to relatives of American citizens or permanent residents, regardless of origin. The intention is to make America more diversified with a balance of different ethnicities joining into the melting pot of America. Asians, Africans, and Latin Americans began arriving America in record numbers.
In 1995, a new Diversity Visa Program (DV Program) was introduced to allow foreigners to work and live in America legally. DV program is headquartered in Williamsburg, Kentucky. Applicants who correctly filled out their application are assigned a computerized generated number.
Upon passing DV application submission deadline, the computer will randomly pick over 100,000 applications for further consideration in the DV program. After an applicant has been chosen for further consideration, he or she will go through a series of steps with U.S. officials before preparing for the trip of a lifetime.
